United States & Caribbean: Defer Travel to Areas Affected by Hurricane Irma

Travelers are advised to continue to defer travel to Caribbean areas, Florida states and coastal areas of Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina states.

Travelers in these areas should follow all official directives, including curfew orders by the authorities.

Irma strengthened into a Category 4 hurricane prior to making landfall on the morning of September 10th (local time) in the Florida Keys (US). The storm remains extremely dangerous, with wind speeds up to 130 miles per hour (215kph) as it moves over the west coast of Florida State (US).

Philippines: Palawan province: US embassy warns of possible abductions

The US embassy in the capital Manila on 9 May warned that it had received credible information that terrorist groups were planning to abduct foreign nationals in Puerto Princesa City and areas surrounding the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park (both Palawan province). The development serves as a reminder that militant groups operating from Mindanao are increasingly seeking to carry out kidnapping raids targeting foreigners in coastal areas of the Sulu Sea. While travel to Palawan can continue, members should observe stringent security measures at all times.
